Campground Review – Blue Cut RV Park – Helper, UT

Blue Cut RV Park, Helper, UtahDescription

The Blue Cut RV Park is a small, older, but well-maintained privately owned campground just off highway US-191, near Price, Utah. This campground in “Castle country” is right on the shore of the rushing Price River and has nice views of the crenelated bluffs lining the river valley. This park is a good place to stop while passing through the area or to stay a few extra nights and explore nearby sights, such as Nine Mile Canyon and the Wedge area of the San Rafael Swell.

Details

We stayed for one week at the Blue Cut RV Park in mid-June of 2017. This is a very basic, clean, (generally) quiet, and well-maintained campground. The park owner, Michelle, was very friendly and helpful when we made our reservations and upon check-in. We also met manager/grounds keeper, “Chipper” – also quite outgoing & helpful.

Cost

For seven nights at a 50 amp full hookup pull-thru site, we paid about $25 per night. The campground has both short and long-term stay sites.

Amenities On Site or Nearby

The campground offers only basic amenities – full hookup sites and laundry room. Grocery stores, restaurants, automotive and RV services are nearby in Price, Utah (5 miles).

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is easily accessible from the US-191. Lanes in the park are well-maintained gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The facilities (laundry room) has provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 2/5

The campground offers only the most basic of amenities – full hookup sites and a laundry room. The park does not have bathroom facilities so rigs must be self-contained.

Site quality – 3/5

Sites are very basic, including only the full or partial hookups with 50/30/20 amp electric and a picnic table. Sites are level, surfaced with gravel, and have a grassy area with picnic table. Sites are wide enough to accommodate slide-outs and awnings, but otherwise have little separation between sites. Most sites have shade trees.

Scenic Value – 3/5

The campground is in a residential/agricultural area near the small town of Helper, Utah. The campground has a nice view of nearby rugged bluffs, adjacent fields, and the Price River. The park has mature shade trees and some nice landscaping touches.

Location/Isolation – 3/5

The campground is set in a rural area between a high bluff and the Price River and feels rather isolated. The campground is generally quiet – it is far enough from US-191 to receive little traffic noise. A railroad does run past the campground, but fortunately there is no nearby crossing so trains do not sound their horns.

Paws Friendliness – 3/5

The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bags. The campground is small for exercising your pet, but you can take longer walks down nearby streets.

Overall Rating – 3/5

Overall, the Blue Cut RV Park is a convenient place to stop for a night or as a base to explore nearby San Rafael Swell, Nine Mile Canyon, or other local recreation areas. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t mind stopping again on our next visit to the area.

We received a moderate 4G Verizon signal at this campground. We did not need to deploy our cellular antenna and booster to improve MiFi hot spot internet access. The campground does not have WiFi.

Water Quality

The water at this campground tested moderately hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.
