Campground Review – Rainbow’s End RV Park – Sequim, WA

Rainbow's End RV Park, Sequim, WA

Description

The Rainbow’s End RV Park is a small, beautifully landscaped, and well maintained privately owned park in Sequim, Washington. The park enjoys a warmer and drier micro-climate than other areas of the Olympic Peninsula since it lies in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains. Rainbow’s End is a great base from which to explore the scenic Olympic Peninsula.

Details

We stayed at the Rainbow’s End RV Park for two weeks in mid-August. This is an older, recently renovated park right next to Highway 101. The park was very busy during our stay. We had a 50 amp full hookup pull-thru site during our stay. Despite proximity to Highway 101, the park was generally quiet at night.

Cost

Our two-week stay here cost about $40/night, including tax and a $2/night extra vehicle fee.

Amenities On Site or Nearby

The campground has basic amenities, including full hookup back-in and pull-thru sites, restrooms and showers, laundry room, club house with kitchen for groups, WiFi, tent sites (summer-only), fruit trees and vegetable/cutting garden, propane, dog park and dog sitting service. A wide range of amenities and services are available close to the park in Sequim and Port Angeles.

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is easily accessible from Highway US-101. The lane through the park will accommodate large rigs, but some sections are very tight. Lanes in the park are well maintained pavement or gravel. The campground facilities have provisions for Universal access. The park has both pull-thru and back-in RV sites. Tent sites are also available during the summer months. Sites are very tight, have little separation between them and may pose a challenge when parking larger rigs.

Facilities/Amenities – 4/5

As noted, the campground offers basic amenities, including full hookup back-in and pull-thru sites, tent sites (summer-only), restrooms and showers, laundry room, club house with kitchen for groups, WiFi, propane, dog park and dog sitting service. The grounds and facilities are clean, nicely landscaped, and very well maintained. Landscaping includes a small trout pond with waterfall and overlooking deck. Fruit trees and vegetable/cutting garden make for a rare perk.

Site quality – 3/5

The park back-in and pull-thru sites have full hookups with water, sewer, and 50/30/20 amp electric service. A large grassy area is available for play and for dry tent sites during the summer months. RV sites are gravel with a picnic table. A few sites have fire rings. Most sites receive shade from the many trees throughout the park. Sites are very tightly packed, with little separation between sites. Indeed, this is the main detraction to the park for us.

Scenic Value – 3/5

The park is not in a particularly scenic place since is along the developed Highway 101 corridor. There is a nice view of low mountains from the park entrance. The park is, however, just a short drive from many scenic locations around the Olympic Peninsula.

Location/Isolation – 3/5

As noted, the park is not in an isolated or scenic place, but it is generally quiet, despite occasional road noise from Highway US-101.

Paws Friendliness – 4/5

The campground is pet friendly, provides pet cleanup bags and has a large enclosed pet run. The park also provides a pet sitting service. The campground is small – it takes several laps around the park for a decent walk with your pet. Ask at the office about pet friendly parks nearby in Sequim.

Overall Rating – 4/5

This is a lovely campground which we can recommend to use as a base to explore the area. We would certainly stay here on another trip. As noted, the main detraction is how cramped the sites are, but you can tolerate it for a while.

Additional info

Internet access

We received a weak to moderate 4G Verizon signal at this campground. We deployed our cellular antenna and booster to improve MiFi hot spot internet access. The campground provides WiFi, but we did not try this service.

Water Quality

The water at this campground tested soft – we did not add our water softener to the water filtration stack.
