Details

We stayed for two nights at the St. George / Hurricane KOA in late September of 2017, using it as a short break as we traveled through the area. This is a basic, clean, and well-maintained campground with relatively easy access from Interstate I-15. The campground staff was friendly and helpful during our stay.

*** CAUTION *** Do not rely on GPS directions to this park or you may find yourself routed down a poorly maintained section of Old Highway 91. Instead, follow detailed directions on the St. George / Hurricane KOA website.

Cost

For two nights at a 50 amp full hookup pull-thru site, we paid about $45 per night, including tax and our KOA Value Kard Rewards Discount. There were no fees for pets or an extra vehicle.

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is relatively easily accessible from Interstate I-15 (exits 22 or 23). Lanes in the park are well-maintained asphalt and gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have provisions for Universal access.

*** CAUTION *** Do not rely on GPS directions to this park or you may find yourself routed down a poorly maintained section of Old Highway 91. Instead, follow detailed directions on the St. George / Hurricane KOA website.

Facilities/Amenities – 4/5

The campground offers the basic amenities expected from a KOA, and more, including full and partial hookup sites, dry tent sites, rental cabins, RV dump station, propane, restrooms and showers, clubhouse, mini golf, game room, laundry room, playground, pickleball, horseshoes, and swimming pool. Facilities are clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Site quality – 3/5

Sites have full or partial hookups with 50/30/20 amp electric and a picnic table. Sites are gravel with picnic table. Sites are wide enough to accommodate slide-outs and awnings, but otherwise have little separation between sites. Some sites have shade trees.

Scenic Value – 4/5

The campground has stunning views of red-rock cliffs and desert hills of southern Utah.

Location/Isolation – 4/5

The campground is set in a stunning desert landscape, miles from town. The campground feels quite isolated, although it does receive some road noise from nearby interstate I-15.

Paws Friendliness – 3/5

The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bags. The campground is large enough for a decent walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, the St. George / Hurricane KOA campground is a convenient and peaceful stop for a few nights when passing through the area or for a longer stay while exploring sights in the area. We enjoyed our stay here.

Additional info

Internet access

We received a moderate 4G Verizon signal at this campground. We did not need to deploy our cellular antenna booster to improve MiFi hot spot internet access. The campground provided free WiFi, but we did not use this during our stay.

Water Quality

The water at this campground tested hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.

  1. We probably scooted right by you mid-Sept. Did you check out the Red Cliff’s Anasazi Site while your were there?

I’ve been on a number of very similar roads in Utah.
