The Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA Journey is conveniently located just a short distance from Interstate-40 in the outskirts of Holbrook, Arizona. This KOA is a good place to stop overnight while passing through the Holbrook area or to stay a few extra nights and explore nearby Petrified Forest National Park and historic Route 66 sites.
The Verde River RV Resort & Cottages is a nice, quiet, older park undergoing major renovations. The campground is well-shaded with mature trees and is set on the wooded shores of the scenic Verde River. This campground is a good place to stay while exploring the Sedona area or even as a pleasant spot to overwinter.
We kicked off our third travel season in late April, heading east for Arizona. We stopped for a short two night stay at the Needles KOA in Needles, California, before crossing into Arizona. Temperatures in Needles were much more bearable this early in the season, upper 80’s and low 90’s, as opposed to the triple-digit heat we endured here two years ago. We felt this was a nice short shake-down trip for the trucks & trailer after a winter with little travel. Continue reading
The J and H RV Park is a lovely and quiet senior campground located along US Highway 89 in Flagstaff, Arizona. The RV park is beautifully landscaped and has won the National RV Park of the Year award three times. The elevation at the park is around 7000 ft. making for pleasant summer temperatures. The summer monsoon season has arrived in the desert southwest, adding drama and excitement to our last week in Flagstaff. Billowing white cumulus clouds build throughout the day, darkening, spilling across the sky until, finally, unleashing torrential downpours, pyrotechnic displays of lightning, gusting winds and, occasionally, hail. With the welcome moisture, the desert is experiencing a second spring and greening up dramatically. Continue reading
