Lovely Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Coeur d'Alene Lake

(Late July, 2017) From Missoula, Montana, we moved on to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, for an eight-night stay at the Blackwell Island RV Resort on the scenic shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene. We had heard many good things about this jewel of a lake and were anxious to spend some time there exploring the area – we were not disappointed.

The drive from Missoula to Coeur d’Alene was short and uneventful, but quite scenic. Our route followed interstate I-90 passed through lovely mountainous country and followed winding valleys next to rushing white water rivers. Truly beautiful country.

Our stay at the Blackwell Island RV Resort was relaxing and the park made a good base from which to explore the area around Lake Coeur d’Alene. We would have like a longer stay at the resort, but we were lucky to even book an eight-night stay during the peak summer season. Jasmine & Pepper especially enjoyed their time at Blackwell Island as they were able to take swims and chase after balls in the lake almost everyday!

Highlights of our stay included long scenic drives & picnic lunches around the lake, yummy huckleberry shakes, a shopping trip into Spokane, WA, and dinner at the Coeur d’Alene Resort. We especially enjoyed the scenic drives around the lake and a stop along the way in the historic town of Harrison. The drives featured drop dead gorgeous views of this mountain lake, but we were somewhat disappointed at how few places there were to stop along the lake shore due to private homes or resort developments.

Another highlight of our stay was when Kim’s friend, Carrie, made the drive from Kennewick, Washington, to visit us for the day. We had last seen Carrie during our stay last year at Maryhill, Washington. We had a really nice time visiting with Carrie and catching up on events of the past year. Lunch at the Coeur d’Alene Resort was especially nice – Carrie’s treat. (Thanks, Carrie!)

Here are some photos from our stay at Coeur d’Alene:

Overall, we enjoyed a nice relaxing stay at Coeur d’Alene and look forward to another visit, sometime soon. Maybe next trip we will book one of the evening dinner cruises on the lake that folks have recommended to us.

That’s all for now. Take care and enjoy the journey!

  1. Brother Bob lived there for a couple of years. I went out there after my graduation and stayed with him for the summer. Worked a few jobs to survive, was a beautiful area.
