Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is accessible via paved roads. Lanes in the campground are well-maintained gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. Some lanes in the park are narrow enough to pose difficulties for a large rig maneuvering into a site, depending on how other guests have parked their vehicles. Another inconvenience was that the sani-dump occupied two lanes on the main drive into the campground – rigs using the sani-dump often blocked this busy lane. The campground facilities have some provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 4/5

The campground offers basic amenities, including full and partial hookup sites, dry tent sites, RV dump station, restrooms and free showers, coin-op laundry, coin-op RV wash, free WiFi, and cable TV. The park has a large gift shop and a breakfast café, the Happy Camper. Facilities were clean and in good repair. The park also has a display of vintage machinery and vehicles used when constructing the Alaska Highway.

Site quality – 3/5

RV Sites have full or partial (water/electric) hookups, cable TV, fire ring and picnic table. Electric service is 30/20 amp for some sites, 20 for others. Sites are level gravel, with little separation between sites. The campground has back-in and pull-thru sites.

Scenic Value – 4/5

The park is nicely forested.

Location/Isolation – 3/5

This is a quiet, forested park that feels isolated. Sites are somewhat close together and can feel crowded when the park is full. The campground is generally quiet, although noise from the highway or low-flying aircraft is heard at times.

Paws Friendliness – 4/5

The campground is pet friendly and has a designated pet walk area with cleanup bag station, but does not have an enclosed pet run. The park is large enough for a decent walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, the Hi Country RV Park is a nice place to stay while travelling the ALCAN or exploring the many attractions around Whitehorse. We enjoyed our stay here and would certainly return another time.

Additional info

Internet access

We received a moderate 4G signal at this campground. Access was roaming, but did not cost extra with our Verizon Unlimited plan. High speed data usage throttled down after 500 Mb per device per day. We used the free campground WiFi service a few times. Internet speeds were variable for either campground WiFi or cellular connection.

Water Quality

The campground water tested hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.
