Kingman KOA Journey, Kingman, Arizona

Description

The Kingman KOA Journey is a basic, quiet, and well-maintained campground set in the high desert of western Arizona. The park features views of distant rugged mountains, generally good weather year-round, and the occasional spectacular desert sunrise/sunset. The campground is centrally located within day-trip driving distance to many area attractions, including: historic Route 66; Oatman and Chloride ghost towns; Lake Havasu and the London Bridge; Hoover Dam and Lake Meade; the Grand Canyon; or Las Vegas. All of this and more makes the Kingman KOA a relaxing place to stay while passing through the area or as a base for exploring the many local Arizona and Nevada area attractions.

We stayed for one-night at the Kingman KOA Journey in late March, 2020.

COVID-19 Pandemic Response: Excellent – contactless check-in; staff wearing masks; social distancing; closed/limited facilities; (still early in pandemic) guest masks welcome, but not required.

For one-night at a 30 amp full hookup gravel pull-thru site, we paid about $47 per night including taxes. There were no additional fees for pets or an extra vehicle.

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 4/5

The campground is accessible from Interstate I-40 via paved streets, but the route passes through areas with heavy local traffic and secondary streets. Be cautious with your GPS Nav system – if it’s like our unit, it may not direct you down the best route!

Lanes in the park are well-maintained asphalt or gravel. The park has pull-thru and back-in RV sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 4/5

The park amenities include full hookup 50 or 30 amp RV sites, tent sites, cabin rentals, restrooms, showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, cable TV, propane service, firewood sales, camp store, Kamp Kitchen, pavilion, playground, enclosed pet run, mini golf, game room, lending library, clubhouse, billiards, horseshoes, TV room, fun train, and seasonal swimming pool/spa/sauna. Facilities are clean and well-maintained.

Site quality – 4/5

RV sites are full or partial hookup with 50 or 30 amp electric, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. Park sites are pull-thru or back-in, clean, and many have shade trees. Site surface is dirt/gravel. Deluxe patio RV sites and deluxe cabins are available.

Scenic Value – 3/5

The campground is basic, utilitarian, and clean with nice landscaping touches for an arid environment. The area around the campground has little scenic value – residential, light industrial, or undeveloped properties. There are some nice views of distant rugged desert mountains, as well as the occasional spectacular desert sunrise/sunset.

Location/Isolation – 3/5

The campground is in a sparsely developed area and is fairly quiet. Site width varies by section – some sites are spacious, while others are close together and feel cramped.

Paws Friendliness – 5/5

The campground is pet friendly, with cleanup stations and a K9 Kamp enclosed off-leash pet run. The campground is large enough for a fair walk with your pet.

Caution – this is a desert environment. Be mindful to provide shade and plenty of water for your pet; watch out for hot ground surfaces; beware of cacti spines/burrs and desert critters.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, the Kingman KOA Journey is a convenient and relaxing place to stay while visiting the Kingman area. We enjoyed our short stay and would visit another time.
