Details

We stayed for 2 nights at Mile 0 Campsite in early May, 2018. This is a full service, clean, and well-maintained park.

It was still very early in the season (May 10) when we visited this park and work crews were still performing maintenance and cleanup after a long cold winter. Indeed, water service was restored to the campground just as we were checking in. Otherwise we would have needed to fill our fresh water tank from a hydrant outside the office.

Cost

For 2 nights at a 50 amp full hookup pull-thru site we paid about $30(CN) per night. There were no fees for pets or an extra vehicle.

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 4/5

The campground is easily accessible from the Alaska Highway. Lanes in the campground are well-maintained asphalt and gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have some provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 3/5

The campground offers basic amenities, including full and partial hookup sites, tent sites, RV dump station, free WiFi, laundry, restrooms and showers. Washrooms, showers, and laundry facilities were undergoing spring cleaning and maintenance during our stay. The bathhouse is showing its age and could use a renovation.

Site quality – 4/5

RV sites have full or partial (water/electric) hookups and a picnic table. Electric service is 50, 30, or 15 amp. The campground has back-in and pull-thru sites. Most sites are level gravel, although a few of the premium RV sites are asphalt. Sites are large, with fair separation between sites. Some sites have shade trees.

Scenic Value – 4/5

The campground is open and park-like, with shade trees, wide swaths of lawn, and nice views of distant rolling hills The campground is right next to the Pioneer Village, Rotary Lake and Splash Park.

Location/Isolation – 3/5

The campground is conveniently located at mile 1.5 on the ALCAN Highway and is close to shopping, services and area attractions. The campground is relaxing and park-like, but does get road noise from the busy ALCAN – especially during the day.

Paws Friendliness – 3/5

The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bag stations. The park is large enough for a decent walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 4/5

Overall, Mile 0 Campsite is a good place to stay while starting or ending your journey on the Alaska-Canadian Highway. We enjoyed our stay here and would return another time.

Additional info

Internet access

We received a strong 4G signal at this campground. Access was roaming, but did not cost extra with our Verizon Unlimited plan. High speed data usage throttled down after 500 Mb per device per day. We did not try the free campground WiFi.

Water Quality

The campground water tested hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.
