Details

We stayed for 3 nights at Mountain Shadow RV Park in late July/early August, 2018. This is a partial service, clean, and well-maintained park with stunning mountain views. The park grounds are immaculately maintained. Flower beds and hanging baskets add a cheerful splash of color around the office. Owners were friendly and helpful.

Cost

For 3 nights at a 30 amp partial hookup pull-thru site we paid about $42(CN) per night, including tax. There were no fees for pets or an extra vehicle.

Ratings (1-5)

Accessibility – 3/5

The campground is just off the Cassiar Highway and accessible via a short, well-maintained gravel road. Lanes in the campground are well-maintained gravel. The park has both pull-thru and back-in sites and can accommodate large rigs. The campground facilities have few provisions for Universal access.

Facilities/Amenities – 3/5

The park offers basic amenities, including partial hookup water/electric sites, RV dump station, restrooms and coin-op showers, limited free & pay WiFi. The park rental cabins, as well as dry tent and small RV sites in a forested area. Facilities were clean and in good repair.

Site quality – 4/5

RV Sites have partial (water/electric) hookups and some have a picnic table. Electric service is 30/20 amp. The campground has back-in and pull-thru sites. Sites are level gravel, wide and have a grassy median for fair separation between sites. Pull thru sites are extra long.

Scenic Value – 5/5

The park is in a lovely valley with sweeping views of meadow, forested hills, and mountains. A lane leads down to a the Mountain Shadow Seaplane Base in a protected cove off Kluachon Lake. A hiking trail winds through forest to the scenic shore of Kluachon Lake where spectacular mountain views and prime fishing await.

Location/Isolation – 5/5

This remote, quiet, and relaxing park has spectacular mountain views and feels very isolated. Sites are somewhat close together, but the scenery and wilderness feel more than make up for it.

Paws Friendliness – 5/5

The campground is pet friendly, but does not have an enclosed pet run or cleanup bag stations. The park is large enough for a decent walk with your pet. The trail to Kluachon Lake and the lane to the sea plane base make for a nice long walk with your pet.

Overall Rating – 5/5

Overall, the Mountain Shadow RV Park is a lovely and relaxing place to stay while traveling the Cassiar Highway and exploring around the spectacular Iskut Valley, the “Resort Capital of Northwest BC”. We enjoyed our stay here and would have stayed longer if we did not already have reservations elsewhere. We would love to return another time.

Additional info

Internet access

We received no cellular signal at this campground. The campground had WiFi with limited free access (one hour per device per day) or pay options. Campground WiFi seemed reliable and speeds were slow, variable, but generally acceptable.

Water Quality

The campground water tested hard – we added our water softener to the water filtration stack.

Bear Advisory

Note: This is bear country. Be alert and do not leave food or trash out which might attract bears. Keep pets on leash and do not leave them unattended outside.
